Glossary
Quantitative measures used to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and ROI of test automation efforts. Key metrics include test coverage, pass rate, flake rate, mean time to feedback, maintenance cost per test, and defect escape rate.
Without metrics, test automation is a cost center with no visibility. Teams can't answer "is our testing investment working?" or "should we invest more?" The right metrics connect testing to business outcomes: deployment frequency, incident rate, and time to recovery.
Most track pass/fail counts and maybe coverage percentage. Few track maintenance hours, cost per test, or defect escape rate. Dashboards from Cypress Cloud, Mabl, and BrowserStack show execution metrics but not ROI metrics.
Zerocheck provides per-PR confidence scores, flake classification, and evidence artifacts that connect test results to compliance requirements. Useful metrics include confidence per change, maintenance hours saved, and audit prep time reduced.
