# How to start browser testing without a QA team

Use the release checklist your engineers already follow. Start with a small set of repeatable flows and make the expected outcomes explicit.

## Why it is hard

- The team knows its product but may not have a written test plan.
- Test data and login setup still need an owner.
- An overly broad suite can consume the time it was supposed to save.

## Plan the test around an observable outcome

1. Write down the flows you manually repeat before release.
2. Pick a narrow journey with clear test data.
3. Define the assertion and who investigates a failure.
4. Keep exploratory testing for new or ambiguous behavior.

## Where Zerocheck fits

1. Paste the checklist in the web app and preview one test per item.
2. Review drafted steps and real browser outcomes.
3. Answer missing-input questions and save the useful tests.
4. Add the optional CLI and CI workflow after the initial suite is usable.

## Choose a first test you already understand

A useful first test often covers a repeated action such as searching for a prepared item or changing a display name. Pick something a developer can explain and diagnose. That lets the evaluation measure whether browser automation removes real work.

## Define ownership before adding a gate

Name the person who reviews failures and the process for updating expectations when the product changes. Automation executes a test; the team still decides which behavior matters and whether a release is ready.

## Pitfalls

- Do not confuse generated steps with verified coverage.
- Do not expect an agent to infer business requirements.
- Keep unit and integration tests for logic that does not need a browser.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do we need to install a test framework?

No install is needed for hosted web testing. Use the optional CLI when you need localhost, repository YAML or GitHub Actions.

### Does this replace a QA role?

No. It helps with repeated browser execution. Product judgment, exploratory testing and release decisions remain with your team.
