# How to evaluate AI test automation

Use a real user flow to evaluate authoring, failure reporting and maintenance. A successful demo alone does not establish useful coverage.

## Why it is hard

- An agent can produce plausible steps without the right assertion.
- A passing result can hide an incomplete expectation.
- A UI change tests different behavior from a product regression.

## Plan the test around an observable outcome

1. Choose a real checklist item and fixed test data.
2. Record the expected outcome before trying the tool.
3. Run a passing case and a deliberate failure.
4. Change the layout without changing the requirement and inspect recovery.

## Where Zerocheck fits

1. Describe the flow and expected outcome in the web app.
2. Review the drafted YAML and actual browser result.
3. Inspect errors, screenshots and exact revisions for the failure case.
4. Review old and new targets and validation state for any healing.

## What the browser agent does

Zerocheck’s browser agent follows your described actions, finds controls from the page and evaluates the requested outcome. Supported explicit assertions use observable browser signals; other semantic expectations involve AI interpretation. Make important outcomes specific enough for a reviewer to understand.

## What your team still supplies

The agent does not choose your business requirements. Provide the app URL, test-account setup, fixtures and expected behavior. Local CLI runs still use Zerocheck’s AI service and upload results and artifacts, so evaluate the data flow as well as the test workflow.

## Pitfalls

- Do not compare only the time needed to generate steps.
- Do not let a failed expectation be weakened to get a pass.
- Include runtime service dependencies in the evaluation.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does AI create tests without any input?

Zerocheck starts from a flow description or checklist you provide. It does not crawl the application to discover coverage.

### What should we measure in the evaluation?

Measure the effort to create a useful test, understand a failure and maintain it after a real UI change. Use your own results rather than a vendor benchmark.
